| Whitby - Mirth @ The Met - April 2010 |
|
Whilst we're no longer running an official event during this year's WGW - we're pleased to announce that we've secured a show at the Metropole on Thursday 22nd April. It's a charity event run by Dark Daisy Promotions and will feature a comedy night like our previous events followed by the band "Alice Moving Under Skies". All proceeds will go to Raw Animal Rescue and Whitby Round Table. ![]() Thursday 22nd April: The Met, 7:30pm. Returning to MC after a hugely successful show at the Rifle Club in April 2009 is the master of musical mirth Silky (http://www.killforaseat.com/?page_id=2). Silky has performed gigs in China, the Philippines, the Gulf, Singapore, the US, the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and all over Europe, including at the Glastonbury Festival. He performed at the 2004 God's Kitchen Global Gathering, the 2005 Big Bang at Santa Pod. Television appearances include 'The Stand-Up Show' (BBC1), 'James Campbell's Silly Experiment' (SO TV/Disney Worldwide), 'Coronation Street' and 'Gagging for It' (Granada), 'Hollyoaks' and 'Brookside' (Mersey TV), 'Heartbeat' and 'Rhinoceros' (Yorkshire TV), Sky TV. 'Skilful and entertaining. Silky's audience banter is sans pareil' - Time Out Headliner for the evening is the wonderful Steve Day - truly a top-class act. Steve Day is a truly unique comedian - warm, witty and engaging whilst dealing with the dilemmas of being a deaf man in a hearing world. His stories of multiple children, wearing a suit and the problems caused by not knowing how words are pronounced will have audiences in raptures, and his uplifting tales of overcoming the obstacles in his path will leave crowds feeling inspired. Steve is a favourite at many venues across the UK and abroad, and is quickly establishing himself as one of the most popular and respected acts on the circuit. He has become a familiar voice on BBC Radio 4, contributing regular to 'You and Yours', featuring in a half-hour special of 'No Triumph, No Tragedy' and starring alongside Caroline Quentin and Patricia Routledge in 'The Sound Barrier'. Steve was also a staff writer on Radio 2's long-running 'The News Huddlines' and has appeared on numerous TV shows, most notable Channel 4's 'Natural Born Talent' and Sky's 'Abnormally Funny People'. He is currently working on a sitcom, and early treatments for an adaptation of his stage show 'A Night At The Pictures' have met with enthusiasm and excitement. In 2005 Steve went on his first national tour of arts centres and theatres, with an updated version of his Edinburgh Fringe show 'Deaf In The Afternoon'. This tour was so successful that it went on the road again later in the same year, in total playing to over 30 venues around the UK, Denmark, Ireland and Italy. In 2006 Steve took his latest show 'A Night At The Pictures' on the road for a mini-tour, playing 10 dates around the UK to both audience and critical acclaim. "Revelatory and very funny" - The Guardian Support Steve we have Chris Brooker (returning by popular demand after a barnstorming performance in October 2009) and Andy Watson. Both regulars on the comedy circuit up and down the country. It's our strongest comedy line-up yet! And as if that wasn't enough... Following the comedy we have the the fantastic live band Alice Moving Under Skies (http://www.queenalice.co.uk/). It's going to be an absolutely lovely evening, for a great cause and all for only £6 (or £7 on the door). Previous Line-ups: (In the event of cancellation the Management reserves the right to change lineup without notice) |
