The Square Festival - July 2009

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with the Square in Borth near Aberystwyth. The festival runs yearly and the next event will be occurring from the 24th - 26th July.

The comedy will be taking place from 8:30pm on the Friday night and we have an exciting line-up planned.

Terry SaundersTerry Saunders
Chortle Award Nominee 2008 – Breakthrough Act
Chortle Award Nominee 2008 – Best Show
Chortle Award Winner 2008 – Innovation in Comedy

Terry Saunders is often told he's a storyteller by people that write about him. This is mainly due to the fact he tells stories for a living and isn't really that friendly with punchlines or one-liners (though he does have one, and it is a fucking corker).
Doing his schtick in stand-up sets tends to see him telling stories about his own life and his own rubbishness at dealing with life’s mainly pathetic challenges.
Fast becoming an Edinburgh Fringe stalwart, 2007 saw him do his third show, Missed Connections – a story show about a girl obsessed with the adverts people write to try and track down the strangers they've seen. 2006 was his first proper story show, Pulp Boy, about a teenage boy who spoke only in the lyrics of Jarvis Cocker. 2005's show was a bit rubbish. There'll undoubtedly be another show about loneliness in 2008, and it might be about Elliot Smith.
Terry is also the co-creator of laughterinoddplaces, the comedy thing that takes comedy from some of the best and most interesting comedians in the country out of beery pubs and puts them in strange places, like charity shops, the museum of london and Bruce Dessau's living room.
Terry is getting more arrogant as the years wear on, catch him before he peaks and then invariably disappoints.

"effortlessly funny … a gentle but genius hour" **** Metro

"a first class storyteller and raconteur … Saunders creates entire worlds of whimsy that an audience falls into only to emerge, as if from a gorgeous dream, an hour or so later … brilliant and heartwarming" TimeOut

"Saunders is successfully carving his own stand-up niche, and one that all romantics and emotional cripples should shyly gravitate towards" The Scotsman

"A fulfilling, grown up piece of comedic artistry" Chortle

Pat GallagherPat Gallagher
Supporting him is Pat Gallagher, a Birmingham born comic who now lives in the Forest of Dean. Pat has gigged all over the world claiming to have played in more toilets than George Michael. He has also headlined in Plymouth and regional South West gigs, as well as numerous regional South West festivals, including playing as support for Wil Hodgson at the ancient order of druids largest gathering in Wales.

Owen NiblockOwen Niblock
Also supporting is self-confessed geek, Owen Niblock. He’s a bit of an odd one, with songs about romantic encounters on buses, novel kids’ book designs and other  surreal and strange material. Owen’s comedy is a refreshing change from the current trend for politically incorrect humour and he makes a valuable addition to any comedy billing.

Anna Keirle
Anna Keirle
Compere for the evening is the wonderful Anna Keirle. In 2003 Anna entered a Major national comedy competition with no thought to what she might actually say or do.

She did well, her first ever gig got her through to the semi finals of the 'So you think you're funny?' National New Comedy Competition at the World famous Edinburgh Fringe festival. She got from there to the final ,which was only her 5th gig.

Meanwhile, she was spotted for another competition, and her 3rd gig was onstage at the Comedy Store in London at the Funny Women final 2003.She was terrified. The audience didn't notice, and she came runner-up.Hurrah!

Since 2003, she's got her head down and worked hard honing her skills and is able to tackle any size or type of crowd with ease.A comedy natural, she makes an excellent MC and has compered The Playtex London Moonwalk, with a crowd of 15,000 for 2 years running.

As an act Anna is confident and comfortable on all types of bill at any sort of event, from festivals to theatres.
