The line-up for this year’s performance is a blistering collection of some of the finest talent from across the country.
Big Howard Little Howard Howard Read is a comic, writer, animator and actor, in that order. He is best known for being one half (and the other half), of the Big Howard, Little Howard, the world's first human cartoon double-act. He is also an acclaimed stand-up comic, writer, author, illustrator and animator.
Little Howard started life as filler in Howard Read's first full length stand-up show in 2002. The next year he returned as part of a full double-act in The Big Howard Little Howard Show which was that year's only British Nominee for the presdigeous Perrier Award. Trips to the Aspen, Melbourne and New Zealand Comedy Festivals followed, including appearances on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (NBC) and The Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala (ABC). In 2007 they appeared on The Royal Variety Performance in front of Her Majesty The Queen, and just next to Michael Ball, in drag. Big Howard and Little Howard other TV appearances include This Morning (ITV1), The Slammer (BBC1), and Campbell Live (TV3 New Zealand).
Big Howard and Little Howard have recently starred in a CBBC series and are currently filming a new series.
Paul Kerensa Exiled Cornishman Paul Kerensa has established himself as one of British comedy's leading young talents, both as a writer and a comedian. In just a few short years he has become a regular at the UK's biggest venues, and a popular and reliable headline act. Still only in his late twenties, Paul has, as a ginger man, battled both prejudice and apathy, and emerged to win ITV's 'Take The Mike' stand-up competition in 2002. In the same year, he appeared in four new act finals at the Edinburgh Festival, including the televised BBC New Comedy Awards.
He writes for various sitcoms, including BBC1 hits Not Going Out and After You've Gone, as well as sketch shows such as Dead Ringers, ITV's CGI UK and BBC3's The Wrong Door. He was awarded the Titheridge Prize as BBC Radio Entertainment's in-house comedy writer, and has also written for The News Quiz, The Now Show, and countless others.
A stalwart at the Edinburgh Festival, whether in plays, sketch shows or stand-up, Paul is now on his 4th solo stand-up show which he takes up in 2008. This follows previous popular (and profitable!) shows 'Paul Kerensa's 26' (themed around TV show 24), 'Back To The Futon' (a tribute show to Back To The Future, including actual Delorean and Hoverboard), and most lately his bluffer's guide to the biblical book of Genesis, handily titled 'Genesis'.
Susan Murray This bad assed Black Country lass takes no prisoners with her irreverent, close to the knuckle and honest humour. She'll have you laughing well into the next millennium with her razor sharp cynicism.
Winner of the first ever Jongelurs Competition and a seasoned regular on the circuit, Susan has emerged as one of the best female stand-ups around. Susan is working nationally; Comedy Store, Jongleurs, Up The Creek, Banana Cabaret, Lee Hurst's Backyard, Comedy Café and internationally; Quatar, Dubai, Abu Dabi, China, Indonesia, Germany. Her versatility means that as well as Corporates and TV warm up, Susan has handled Biker Festivals, music festivals inc. Glastonbury. After her sell out Edinburgh show in 2004 "Happy Hour" she is writing and performing for Radio 1 on The Milk Run and has just received a writing bursary from the BBC and is writing several projects for them. She is also working on projects for Steve Coogan's production company Baby Cow. Susan starred in the TV comedy drama "Love, Lies and Lipstick" for Carlton West. She also performed in Screaming Blue Murder's "Big Value Comedy Show" in Edinburgh in 2000. Her comedy talents don't stop there; Susan performed in two Arthur Smith Edinburgh shows one of which was extended to the West End ; "Arthur Smith Sings Leonard Cohen".
MC: Paul B Edwards Compere for the evening is the wonderful Paul B Edwards. Paul has been performing comedy since his days at University in the early nineties. His unique brand of songs/jokes/poems and general banter have made him a great favourite in the comedy clubs of the UK.
Over his career he has performed over 2000 gigs at all the best comedy clubs in the land and beyond, including The Comedy Store (UK), Jongleurs Comedy Clubs (UK), The Glee Clubs (UK), The Improv (USA) and more recently as far afield as Cape Town and Singapore!
Paul is a regular on the UK festival circuit and is this year again booked to play both Reading and Leeds Festivals - performing a set at Reading and compering Leeds. Add to that a bi-annual booking at "Run To The Sun" in Newquay (He's rumoured to be MC-ing the whole thing next year!) and it's obvious that he's both hilarious and flexible!
